Hello! I'm Dr. Sam Madeira! I'm a physician & Product Manager with over 4 years in health tech & 15 years working in clinical integrative medicine, and over a year in functional laboratory diagnostics clinical education. As Chief Product Officer (CPO) at WellnessWits, I led the launch of a product for Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs). This innovative solution aims to decrease physician burnout, help patients improve their health outcomes, and build a supportive community of people who understand each other's diagnoses.
“I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring." - David Bowie In that spirit, check out what else I'm up to below!
My mission is to empower people to become their own doctors, making primary care nearly obsolete in North America by providing accessible AI-driven tools for healthier living through smart devices (computers, tablets, smartphones, wearables, IoT, etc.) for anyone who desires these solutions and wants to prevent chronic illnesses without the expense of engaging physicians when unnecessary & burdensome.
“Over the years, I have learned that every significant invention has several characteristics. By definition it must be startling, unexpected, and must come into a world that is not prepared for it. If the world were prepared for it, it would not be much of an invention.” — Dr. Edwin Land, founder of Polaroid, physicist, scientist, inventor
I am an integrative medicine physician, entrepreneur, naturalist, and novice botanist with a deep-rooted passion for medicinal ethnobotany and the healing power of plants. I believe herbal medicine is the original “open source medicine”. There’s strong tradition of herbal medicine in every culture worldwide.
My journey in the natural world is complemented by my diverse roles as a writer and product manager, where I enjoy crafting stories through journalistic and creative writing, including poetry. When I’m not delving into the intricacies of herbal medicine, you can find me traveling, hiking, skiing, or learning to code in SQL and Python.
My curiosity is fueled by a lifelong fascination with inventors and polymaths who have shaped history—from Da Vinci and Avicenna to Alexander Graham Bell, Alan Turing, Hedy Lamarr, and Edwin Land. I draw inspiration from their relentless pursuit of innovation and creativity, bridging disciplines from medicine to engineering and computing. Their stories ignite my own desire to explore new frontiers and make a meaningful impact across various fields.
I come from a long line of inventors, engineers, entrepreneurs, industrialists, educators, philanthropists, and professors in New York City, Philadelphia, PA, and Cambridge, MA, who have made their mark in economics, philosophy, education, government, chemistry, and engineering. This rich academic and professional heritage has instilled in me a deep appreciation for knowledge and a drive to contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of science and innovation. I strive to honor this legacy by continuing to push boundaries and explore the intersections of my varied interests.
"Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.”
